Roussillon and its Ochres

(47 km - 49 mn)84220 Roussillon
Located in the heart of the world's largest ochre deposit, it proclaims its mineral uniqueness with an astonishing palette of flamboyant colours.
Walking through its alleys and staircases, contemplating its facades, often simple and naturally beautiful, one can admire the result of more than a thousand years of know-how.
Ochre is everywhere: in the landscapes that cannot be forgotten, on the walls of the houses, coated in the traditional way, but also in the hearts of men, which the precious pigment kept alive until the middle of the 20th century.
You will fully feel this presence by taking the Ochre Path, which has been laid out and marked out, and which will lead you to the "Giant's Causeway", in the middle of fairy chimneys and a series of grandiose sites sculpted by water, wind and the hand of man.

The Ochre Path
Ochre is a natural pigment mixed with cliff sands. Iron oxide colours it from yellow to purplish. This mineral landscape has been shaped by man's hand and by erosion.
Two routes (short or long) allow you to visit it for 30 to 60 minutes, but you can also contemplate it for as long as you wish ... Discreet desks mark out your route for explanations on the geology, the flora, the history, the ochre massif of the Luberon ...
Le Mas des Arômes would like to thank you for following the safety instructions while enjoying this 110 million year old mineral journey!
